I took this photograph with a flashlight. It wasn’t even a big flashlight, it was just a bit bigger than a pen light. More than anything else, I think I wanted to impress my wife with my ingenuity. I’m not sure she was all that impressed. After all, she lives with me, and knows pretty well that the waters of my genius don’t run too deep. In fact, I’m left swimming in a dry lake most of the time. But, all that said, I encourage all of you who aspire to be a photographer, make sure that each and every time you go out to shoot some pictures spend just a few minutes playing with a new idea. I’m not sure this is the best picture ever taken in the history of photography (there’s some motion blur owing to a fairly long exposure, but in my mind, it only adds to the romantic feel of the picture), but I think it’s pretty darned beautiful just the same. I’m proud of it, and I’m happy to give it to the Love family as a keepsake of their marriage.
