Walking around shooting an event for a local school district, I saw this young girl holding on to her mother as she spied upon me with eyes that spoke pure apprehension. She followed me with those eyes for quite a while. The beauty of the moment was so strong, I had to capture this image. It reminds me so much of my own clinging when I was a child. We lived in some pretty scary areas, and saw more frightening things than I’d ever want to share with strangers, but at the end of every day, my mother was there to protect me and my four sisters. Sometimes I think it is a miracle that we all survived into adulthood, but then I remember that it had a lot to do with the strength and love of my mom as well. I am glad this girl has her safety net. It will serve her well as long as it lasts and longer.
